About Appalachian Essence
Twenty years ago, I was driving my grandmother around the foggy mountain hills of Santa Cruz, California, playing my favorite bluegrass musician, John Prine. She got quiet, sighed, and said — "Your grandfather used to play this damn music all the time."
I didn't think much of it then, other than a smirk.
Twenty years later, I'm on Ancestry.com and find out both my grandfathers' families go back to West Virginia and Kentucky — all the way to the 1700s. Armistead. Hamilton. Levi. Real names. Real people I never knew existed.
Right around that same time I started learning Appalachian folk herbalism. The old mountain ways of working with plants. Making skincare the way mountain healers had for generations.
I don't think that was an accident. I think something was already pulling me back.
Appalachian Essence is where all of it landed. 🌿
